Quick Composing Tourney Sunday August 24, 2014

Theme: Direct twomovers (#2) and helpmate twomovers (h#2) with hurdle colour changing lions (also known as Andernach lions)
Scope: Twins and/or multiple solutions are allowed. Zero-positions are and other fairy elements are not allowed.
Testing: Popeye currently doesn't allow pawns to promote into hurdle colour changing lions
Judges: Reto Aschwanden (Switzerland) for #2 and Hans Peter Rehm (Germany) for h#2

5 days Composing Tourney

Theme: Orthodox direct twomovers with a twinning that consists of moving a white bishop from a light square to a dark square or vice-versa
Scope: Zero-positions are not allowed
Judges: Chris Handloser and Martin Hoffmann, Switzerland
Prizes: Swiss wine, books and medals
Audience: Open to Congress Participants only
Deadline: August 27th (Wednesday) 6 p.m. in Berne to WCCC mailbox at Novotel front desk

5th Bulgarian Wine Tourney

Theme: #2, H#2, S#2, HS#2 with the fairy condition SneK Chess
Scope: Fairy pieces (except royal pieces) and other fairy conditions are not allowed
Testing: Problems should be computer checked (currently by WinChloe 3.27) UPDATED
Judge: Diyan Kostadinov (Bulgaria)
Prizes: Bottles of Bulgarian wine and Bulgarian souvenirs
Audience: The tourney is open to everybody, but only congress participants can receive bottles and souvenirs

Moskovskaya Matreshka Tourney

Theme: Helpmate in 2 moves with Matreshka theme (Twin created from the mating position by adding a black unit between the mating unit and the black king as further specified in the PDF document)
Scope: Orthodox chess rules only

Prizes: Bottles of Stolichnaya Vodka and "Matreshka" souvenirs
Audience: Open to Congress Participants only

Theme: Helpmate in 2 moves with the new fairy condition Back-to-Back
Scope: Any other fairy pieces and/or conditions are not allowed
Testing: Only computer-tested problems will be accepted - Popeye 4.69 is needed for testing UPDATED
Judges: Tadashi Wakashima and other Japanese participants
Prizes: Bottles of Sake
Audience: Open to everybody, but only congress participants can receive bottles

12th Ukrainian Folk Crafts Tourney

Theme: Kucherenko Theme (Switchbacks as further specified in the PDF document) with 2 sections:
A: Helpmate in 2 moves
B: Selfmate in 2 moves
Scope: Orthodox chess rules only
Limit: Maximum 2 entries per author
Testing: Computer-tested entries on diagrams with full solution
Judges: Yevgen Reytsen & Nataliia Kucherenko
Prizes: Products of the Artistic Ceramics Opishnia Plant (Poltava, Ukraine); three prizes, honorable mentions and commendations

1st Azerbaijan Helpmate Tourney

Theme: Helpmate in 2 moves with the Karabakh theme: one white piece moves to the same square in four phases alternating with moves of two other white pieces
Scope: Orthodox chess rules only

26th Spišská borovička Tourney

Theme: Any kind of problems in 2 moves with antagonistic stipulation (#2, =2, S#2, R=2, etc...). At least one variation, in which the defence and mate are played to neighbouring squares
Scope: Twins, multiple solutions, promoted pieces and also all kinds of fairy pieces and/or conditions are allowed
Testing: Only computer-tested problems (C+) will be accepted
Judge: Peter Gvozdják
Prizes: Bottle of Spišská borovička and several books
Audience: The tourney is open worldwide, however the prizes for congress participants only
